Due to high income, motorized transport is increasing at a fast pace in the urban areas which in turn is worsening the environmental quality. This road traffic accounts for deterioration of air quality in towns and cities generating consequential problem. Traffic noise and air pollution has been creating nuisance in the commercial areas. The blaring noise from the engines of vehicles, horns, sound from gear boxes and the various poisonous gases, heavy metals emitted from the car engines is polluting, thereby degrading the environment.Environmental pollution in Chandigarh has been viewed to reach dangerous levels since past few years. The frightening ascent in street traffic in roadways and intersections have bothered air and noise contamination in the surrounding region. Along these lines, it has become necessary to screen the various degrees of noticeable pollutants in the city to avert the inhabitants living close by the busy roads from unforeseen effects. In this research, a comparative study has been done for environmental impact assessment of traffic at different busy places in Chandigarh in order to get a detailed overview. The present study mainly focuses on monitoring to abatement of air and acoustic pollution due to traffic in Railway Intersection, Grain Junction, Sector 16-17 Red Light Intersection and Chandigarh University. It was noted that the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 were estimated to be highest and lowest near the Sector 16-17 intersection and Chandigarh University respectively. Also, the percentage rate of seed germination was highest in Chandigarh University during the afternoon and lowest in Railway during evening time. The greatest concentration of heavy metals like Pb & Cd were reported in Sector 16-17 Red light junction & Railway Junction respectively during morning whereas Zn & Cu were found to be highest during the evening and morning respectively in Sector 16-17 Red light junction. Heavy metal content was determined lowest in Chandigar
