Birds play various important roles in flower pollination, seed and pest control. With the great dispersal ability and the high rank on the food chains, birds are also essential in maintaining the energy flow and the balance of ecosystem. In addition, their colourful and unique features have provided a basis for recreational experiences in particular to birdwatchers. As such, birds actually generate substantial income for many countries through well-planned bird watching activities. All these factors have made them one of the well-studied groups of organisms. This photographic guide devotes some of the common bird species found in lowland forests with special reference to birds captured using mist-nets in Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve (AHFR), Puchong, Selangor. The book is intended to familiarize the students with AHFR's bird species and expose them to a technique to bird study i.e. mist-netting. Photographs indicate some of the important and close-up features of captured birds. In addition, there are also important notes on behaviour, habitats and feeding guilds on each species.
