New York:--Brakes applied in first car in 0.9 of a second; in fiftieth car in 9 seconds. Eleven brakes did not apply beyond leakage groove. Second Trial. Westinghouse:--Brakes applied in first car in 0.6 of a second; in fiftieth car in 0.9 seconds. All brakes applied. New York:--Similar to former trial. Six brakes did not apply beyond leakage groove. TEST No. X. Service application:--15 pounds to be admitted to cylinders, pressure then to be noted at end of 5th, 10th and 15th minutes. The number of brakes remaining applied at the respective periods was as follows: It should be said that there appears to be an error in the report here, as one of the cars said to have leaked off on the Westinghouse train (No. 46,337) was not on that train, but was a New York brake car. It is probable the number of the car was incorrectly noted. In both trains the leaking off of one car (the last) and in the New York train probably the first also should be credited to leakage of connections with the dynagraph car. TEST No. XI. Same as No. X, except that all air was exhausted from train line by emergency application. On a first trial for 15 minutes all New York brakes remained applied.
