
This book presents a strategy for increasing diversity in workplaces employing engineers, scientists and technologists. It draws on research on issues relating to the difficulties of attracting and retaining a diverse workforce, especially women into these fields. It draws on the experience in changing the culture in these organisations for improved safety to establish a framework for changing the culture for diversity. A reporting framework is also provided with a set of leading and lagging indicators to monitor progress of the initiative. The reporting framework aligns with the reporting requirements of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency. Adoption of this strategy would also enable organisations to meet many of the requirements to become and Employer of Choice. This strategy has been developed in the Australian context and is supported by professional associations in Australia. It is also applicable internationally and is endorsed by international associations.
