The word ergot derives from the French for "cockspur" a description of the infected curved grain. Long before its official introduction by American physicians Stearns, 1908, ergot was known as a mean of speeding child birth. The classic natural ergot alkaloid is egrotamine. In the present study histopathological and haematological evaluation of acute dosages of both the drugs i.e. ergotamine and caffeine on the tissue and blood of albino rats has been done in detail. This information is useful for microbiologists, students, teachers and researchers working on the effect of drugs.
