The Morris Museum of Art, nestled on the banks of the Savannah River in downtown Augusta, Georgia, is the oldest museum in the country dedicated to the art and artists of the American South. What began as a collection of just over 1,000 works in 1992 has grown dramatically—the museum now boasts more than 5,000 pieces by some of the most renowned artists throughout the Southern United States. This 288-page, hardcover book highlights 149 artworks—paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, and mixed-media works—by 131 artists. The content is arranged chronologically, from 1731 to 2010.
