The beginnings of the modern idea of feminism are usually traced to the publication of Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women in 1792. Opposing Wollstonecraft were the anti-feminists whose ideas were often conveyed through novels. Contained within this set are Eliza Lynn Linton's The Rebel of the Family (1880), Walter Besant's The Revolt of Man (1890), Arabella Kenealy's Dr Janet of Harley Street (1893); C.E. Raimond's George Mandeville's Husband (1894), and Grant Allen's The Type-Writer Girl (1897).
