The main theme of the BCS-FACS 7th Refinement Workshop, held in Bath, 3 - 5 July 1996, was the use of refinement techniques to provide theoretical foundations for reliable systems design. The papers cover both practical and theoretical issues involved in developing real-time systems. Among the main topics covered are: requirement capture and analysis of safety-critical systems; methods for large-scale software development; and tools and techniques for parallel systems development.
