In 1968 the Israel Knesset set a process of school desegregation and ethnic integration into motion, accompanied by extensive research by social scientists and educators. 10 years after the initiation of the program, the accumulation of data prompted the organization of a seminar, which met at intervals for two years. The seminar's aims were to examine and summarize the theoretical and empirical knowledge available in Israel relevant to this ethnic integration and desegregation in the schools, to orient policy makers in terms of research results, and to consider and compare ideas and data with information from other countries, primarily the United States. The material presented in this book reflects many of the topics discussed in the seminars, prepared for this volume at the conclusion of the program.
