Myong Hae and Charlie Rollins are part of the lucky 200 to be chosen to live in a place called the Safe House. Myong Hae and Charlie come from different backgrounds, one with a family and stability and one who grew up in the foster care system and is ousted out by society because of his disability. They have been chosen to take part in a pilot program that will assess their academic and physical skills. They fall in love with each other but have to work to survive in the Safe House and make it to the outside world. Charlie has a physical disability, one where he has limited movement in his legs. He was one of the mistakes made during the artificial insemination process. They eventually make it to Wen Dlrow, which is a new world where diversity and imperfections are accepted.
