The perception of pain in the mind of dental patients is a significant deterrant to regular dental attendance by many; control of this pain and anxiety is therefore a treatment issue which is central to the clinical practice of dentistry. This textbook covers both local anaesthesia and sedation comprehensively, and provides practical instructions for the dental student. It provides a theoretical framework based on the anatomy, physiology and pharmacology of pain and anxiety control. Included is a rational approach to the prescription of drugs and coverage of the control of operative, perioperative and post-operative pain in dentistry.
