
Kaira Looro is one of the most important international architecture competition for developing countries, open to students and young architects from all over the world. The goal of this contest is to develop projects and research focused on architecture in developing countries and on solutions to humanitarian and environmental emergencies.This book collects and presents the best projects of the third edition for a Peace Pavilion in Senegal: the 1st prize, 2nd prize, 3rd prize, seven mentions and twenty finalists evaluated by an international jury made up of Kengo Kuma (Kengo Kuma Associates), Agostino Ghirardelli (SBGA), Toshiki Hirano (University of Tokyo), Urko Sanchez (Urko Sanchez Architects), Diana Lopez Caramazana (Un-Habitat Nairobi), Jean Paul Sebuhayi Uwase & Noella Nibakuze (Mass Design Group) and the scientific committee composed by Sebastiano D’Urso (University of Catania), Moussa Souane (CCAI Sedhiou), and Raoul Vecchio (Balouo Salo).The book also includes a preface by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and reflections on the potential and perspectives of architecture on the African continent, written by A. Ghirardelli, G. Brizzi, R. Vecchio and S. D'Urso.All proceeds from the competition and from the sale of this book have been donated to the Non-profit Organization Balouo Salo to support humanitarian projects in Africa.
