Neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the major and minor salivary glands of the upper aerodigestive tract are, on the whole, relatively uncommon; however, they ignite interest in clinicians from many backgrounds. This book presents a re-evaluation of our understanding of salivary gland disease. There is now an accumulated body of clinical data to add to the longer-standing pathological evidence. This book attempts to integrate the newer clinical findings with the historical pathological record, and to highlight, and where possible, resolve any conflicts between the two. The book is divided into four sections. The first section introduces the topic and covers epidemiology, aetiology and classification. Sections two and three cover the benign and malignant neoplasms, and the final section examines other chronic disorders and calculi. Throughout, the chapters are presented as a series of controversies, with the respective arguments presented, discussion included and some editorial comment added as a summary. The authors are all international authorities in their respective fields. It should be read by general and maxillofacial surgeons, oncologists and otolaryngologists, as well as plastic and paediatric surgeons, clinical immunologists and radiologists.
