Excerpt from The Problem of Reality: Being Outline Suggestions for a Philosophical Reconstruction The following pages contain suggestions for a reconstruction of the Philosophical Problem and for its solution, taking it up at the point at which it was left by the classical philosophical schools of Germany. To designate the subject matter of the Problem I have sometimes used the word Metaphysic for the sake of con venience. It would be useless to be deterred from this by any fear lest the ordinary Philis tine should, at the mere use of the word, be thrown into convulsions. Of course, its bare mention will cause him to froth at the mouth with inept common-places as to the impossibility of any science other than that of phenomena.
