In early September of 2019 I fell in love. L and I live in different cities, so, in the first months of dating, we wrote each other a novel’s worth of words by text. I also drove the 4+ hour round trip to see her almost every weekend. At some point, we started sending each other morning haiku. Sometimes I wrote from my own inspiration. Sometimes I took the words from one of her texts and rearranged them to fit into haiku form. When the pandemic hit in mid-March, so much changed. But for a while, we still wrote haiku. At some point we both got overwhelmed with work and L was also homeschooling her kids. There was a pretty big pause. But then, we started again, even if sporadically. These poems are from both of us, to both of us, and about us, our love and lives.
