When Flora and Maddy are forced to do a boring school project on the history of the local fishing industry together, they are both apprehensive. Flora is a timid girl who is often bullied. Maddy, on the other hand, is popular, outgoing and confident. But when they learn of a boy called Laurie, who drowned on his first fishing expedition as a member of the `Arctic Raider' crew over forty years ago, they decide to find out more about him and the mysterious captain, `The Iceman'. But discovering the truth turns out to be more difficult than they thought. Just what did happen on that cold Christmas Day aboard `The Raider'?
