The most memorable golf result of 2012? That would have been in the Ryder Cup, when Europe appeared left for dead on Saturday afternoon and it looked like the Americans would take an 11-5 lead into Sunday's 12 single matches. Ian Poulter then made five straight birdies to pick up a late point and captain Jose Maria Olazabal's European team rode that momentum the next day to match the greatest rally in Ryder Cup history, with Martin Kaymer holing the clinching putt in a 14 1/2-to13 1/2 thriller. All this and more are included in the 47th edition of the annual founded by Mark H. McCormack, Rolex Presents the World of Professional Golf 2013. Mr. McCormack, the founder and chairman of IMG, passed away in 2003 at the age of 72, but this publication continues in his memory. Not since Tiger Woods...That phrase seemed to fit like a glove for Rory McIlroy, who won five times during the year and went where no one else had gone since before 1996, the year Woods became unquestionably golf's tope star. McIlroy became the first since Woods to win consecutive major championships by at least eight shots when he won the PGA Championship Kiawah Island. He became the first player Woods to win back-to-back FedExCup Playoff events. And at age 23, he became the youngest player since Woods to reach No. 1 in the world. McIlroy spent much of the summer trading positions with the former world No. 1, Luke Donald, until he finally seized control by winning the PGA Championship and the consecutive FedExCup events. He led the PGA Tour money list by $2 million over Woods, who had three victories for the year, and matched Donald's feat of 2011 by capturing the money titles on both side of the Atlantic, easily winning the Race to Dubai for the European Tour honors. These and other events are fully chronicled in Rolex Presents The World of Professional Golf 2013. There are chapters on each of the major championships and on each of the world tours.
