This is the 40th edition of the golf annual founded by Mark H. McCormack, The World of Professional Golf 2006. Mr. McCormack, the founder and chairman of IMG, passed away in 2003 at the age of 72, but the publication continues in his memory. The 2006 volume features Tiger Woods, who regained his position as No. 1 in the world in 2005, winning two major championships-the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship in Britain. Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson were also again big winners on the PGA Tour, and other top players included Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Chris DiMarco, and Adam Scott. Mickelson won the PGA Championship, and in the year's other major championship, Michael Campbell was the surprise winner of the U. S. Open. In both the PGA Championship and U. S. Open, Woods placed two strokes behind. Annika Sorenstam continued her outstanding play in women's golf in 2005 while being challenged by numerous young players including teenagers Michelle Wie and Paula Creamer.
