
In recent years, holistic, alternative or complementary therapies have been the subject of increasing interest within health care. With their emphasis on self-care and prevention of illness of the whole person rather than on a symptomatic approach, they are no longer seen as fringe or unorthodox, and are being increasingly integrated into orthodox medicine. These emphases are also ones which are of growing importance in nursing, where individualised patient care is a major aim.
