This is the story about a man named Spartk's. The major battles are factual, but some people and events are fictionalized for characterization. At the end of 74 B.C., Spartk's leads the Medi tribe in tribal wars. Then Spartk's moves from the village to start a family, which upsets the Medi warriors, who are overcome by the Roman army and captured. The captured are sold as slaves. Spartk's is sent to the gladiator school in Capau, Italy. Tobacus, Spartk's' long-time friend, searches for his son and finds him at the Circus Maximus, where Tobacus becomes a charioteer. In the summer of 73 B.C., the gladiators storm the kitchen and arm themselves with chopping knives and such, then flee. The alarm sounds as they fight their way out of Capau and on the way they pick up six wagons of gladiator weapons. Out of 200, 79 make it alive. They stop and fight a pursuing cohort of 200, then continue to the top of Mt. Vesuvius, where they become trapped. The table turns as the handful of rebels roust or kill 3000 Romans. Publius Varinus is then rousted. There are many different stories inside the main story. Stories of love and rage, tests of friendships, lives torn apart, lives and loves lost, and the strength to overcome and adapt. A tale of a time past when mercy was weak. A tale of a man against an empire!
