Schenck, a Confederate veteran, wrote this book in 1889 as a defense of North Carolina's performance in the Civil War. Narratives and battle maps are presented for each of the following battles on the road to British surrender at Yorktown: Camden, King's Mountain, Cowpens, Guilford Court-House, Hobkirk's Hill, and Eutaw Springs. The names of all officers in the six battalions of North Caroline Minutemen and the three Light Horse companies are listed here. Appendix A contains a register of officers with dates of commission, originally compiled in October 1884. Appendix B is the charter and organization of the Guilford Battle Company. A fold-out map shows "The Marches of Lord Cornwallis and Major General Greed in the Southern Provinces." Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR
