This is a descriptive analysis of money as an indicator of economic activity. Deyell provides a comprehensive examination of patterns of production, exchange, and dispersion of money in the area from Afghanistan to Bihar, and from Kashmir to Malwa during the period 750-1250. He argues that these patterns can effectively be used to define the economic systems of early medieval North India.
